You hear what it will and will not run

One battery will not run every home, and whole-home backup does not mean unlimited power. Mike works out which circuits the system is designed to carry and puts it in the proposal, so you know what stays on before the install. Banx is licensed and bonded under ROC 340040.

Serving Litchfield Park, Goodyear, Avondale, Buckeye, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise and Phoenix.

Battery backup without solar panels

You do not need panels on the roof to get a home battery. A compatible battery can charge from the grid and power your backed-up circuits during an outage, as long as it is installed with the right backup equipment. It is an option if you want backup power without adding solar.

One thing to know: without solar or another way to recharge it, a battery-only system has a set amount of stored energy. Once that is used, it is used until the power comes back.

Add a battery to the solar you have

Already have solar? Whether a battery can be added depends on your inverter, the battery, the controls and how the system was designed. Your proposal should spell out how the battery charges, which circuits it backs up, and how the system behaves in an outage.

Solar not producing the way it should? Start with solar repair before adding a battery, or see all solar and battery services.

Choose the backup you need

Essential circuits

Back up the things you pick, like the refrigerator, lights, internet and certain outlets. The design lists which circuits stay on when the grid is down.

More of your home

A bigger system can carry more circuits or a whole-home setup. The number of batteries, their output and the load management have to match what you plan to run at the same time. Whole-home does not mean unlimited power or runtime.

Air conditioning and big loads

Tell us if cooling matters. We look at what your AC draws to start and to run, along with everything else. AC can change the equipment you need and how long the backup lasts, so we never assume one battery covers it.

Equipment picked for your home

Mike recommends a battery after he has looked at your panel, any solar you already have, and what you want running. Ask about the compatible options for your home.

What we look at before the install

Your backup priorities, your electrical service and panel, where the battery will go, and the controls it needs. The scope covers permits, utility paperwork, setup and a walkthrough when it is done.

On APS or SRP? We check their requirements for your setup. Some equipment, like a meter-mounted backup switch, depends on what the utility accepts and what fits your home, so we pick the arrangement after we have seen it.

Older or smaller panels sometimes need a panel or service upgrade first. Planning an EV charger too? Tell us, because it changes the panel math.

What affects the price

The battery and how many, the electrical work, what you are backing up, where it goes, the controls and the permits. The estimate lists the equipment and the work, and anything extra gets explained before you approve it. Any savings on your bill depend on your rate plan, how the system is set up and how you use energy.

Frequently asked questions

How long will a battery run my home?
It depends on how much energy is stored, how charged it is, what is running, and whether anything can recharge it. We estimate runtime from the loads in your design and show you the assumptions behind it.
Will every home battery work during an outage?
No. Some batteries are set up to work only while the grid is on. Backup during an outage takes a compatible battery and the equipment to power your backed-up circuits safely.
Will my solar keep working during a power outage?
That depends on the system. Most grid-tied solar shuts off when the power goes out, and keeping it running takes equipment designed and set up for that. We check your system before promising solar charging or backup during an outage.
Can a battery run my air conditioning?
Sometimes, and it is the biggest question in the design. We look at your AC’s starting and running draw along with everything else you want on. It can change how much battery you need and how long it lasts.
Do I need an electrical panel upgrade?
Not every project does. We inspect your service and panel and explain any electrical changes the battery system needs before you approve anything.
